The boards of our public bodies do not reflect the diversity of the population of the country. In addition, during the past three years the proportion of successful applicants who were women or had a disability, or were drawn from a BME group has fallen.

The Government will soon set out bold new targets that will require public bodies to increase appointments of candidates from these under represented groups. What does this mean for you and your organisation?

This conference has been specifically designed for those working in a departmental sponsorship unit or who have responsibility for appointments to a public body. If you are asking yourself one or more of the following questions, this conference is for you:

  • How can we increase the proportion of female, BME and disabled candidates serving on our boards?
  • How can we broaden the appeal of our campaigns to attract more applicants from non traditional backgrounds?
  • Are we asking the right questions when we interview candidates?
  • Are there any “quick wins” we can benefit from?
  • Do I understand what the new targets mean for me and our organisation?
  • By attending this conference delegates will obtain an insight into the new public appointments diversity targets, as well as the opportunity to question key policy influencers from the Government Equalities Office, Appointments Commission and the Commissioner for Public Appointments.
